Summary
I designed a sponge holder that dries the sponge more quickly than other products I have used.
Description
Sponges are often damp if they have been recently used, an optimal breeding ground for bacteria. I designed this sponge holder to dry the sponge more quickly, providing my kitchen space with a more sanitary environment. The first simple concept was to raise the sponge above the sink, allowing air to passthrough the bottom. Sponges like the one in the picture dry more quickly with the green part face up, however, this design enables the sponge to dry quickly even with the green side down. Secondly, the platform is raised high enough for most sink pipe covers, allowing the user to cover the pipe-cover with the drying platform, maximizing sink space. Another design feature was to use bars extending from each end of the platform, allowing air to move vertically through and around the sponge. The last feature is the bars are cube shaped, and rotated 45 degrees, so that the sponge is sitting on the corner of the cube. This means that no part of the sponge is on a flat surface, once again increasing airflow over other products.
